What ECOFIN debates
ECOFIN is the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the Economic and Financial Committee. It takes on the questions that shape prosperity across the globe: economic development, poverty reduction, trade, debt and financing, and the way that growth is shared between and within countries. Where the First Committee looks at security, ECOFIN looks at money and markets, and at how the international system can lift living standards without leaving whole regions behind.
In a Model UN conference, ECOFIN delegates draft resolutions on issues such as sustainable development, foreign direct investment, financial inclusion, food security, sovereign debt relief, and the economic side of climate action. The committee rewards delegates who understand how policy and budgets actually connect, and who can build coalitions between wealthy donor states and developing economies. It is the room where the numbers behind diplomacy get argued out.
Hearts in the deck
In Model UN Poker, ECOFIN is the hearts suit. Its cards carry the imagery of the world economy: stacks of coins, the heavy doors of a vault, and the tickers and trading floors of a stock exchange. The warm red of hearts gives the committee an energetic, money-in-motion feel that suits its subject.

The suit is thematic. Hearts give ECOFIN its look, but they carry no special power in play. Suit matters in only two ways: it breaks ties (spades beat hearts beat diamonds beat clubs), and collecting five cards of one suit scores a "Committee Flush."
Scoring rewards things like the best poker hand, collecting a Committee Flush, collecting "lion" cards, and a special-envoy bonus. The full rules, with all the details, arrive at launch.
