What the Legal Committee debates
The Legal Committee is the Sixth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the primary forum for questions of international law. It considers the treaties, conventions and legal principles that let states cooperate and settle disputes without force: the codification of law, the responsibility of states, jurisdiction, the rule of law at the national and international level, and the legal frameworks that underpin the whole UN system. Where other committees weigh policy, LEGAL weighs the rules themselves and how they should be written.
One of the richest areas the Sixth Committee touches is the Law of the Sea. The oceans carry the great majority of world trade, and international law has to answer who controls which waters, how shipping lanes stay open, how ports and coastal states share rights, and how the seabed and its resources are governed. Delegates draft resolutions on maritime boundaries, navigation and the peaceful use of the seas, connecting dry legal text to the very real movement of cargo across the globe. It is the committee where careful drafting meets the map.
Diamonds in the deck
In Model UN Poker, the Legal Committee is the diamonds suit, and its art leans into the Law of the Sea. Its cards carry the imagery of maritime trade and the law that governs it: busy ports, stacked cargo containers, and the shipping routes that thread across the oceans. The clear blue of diamonds gives the committee a sea-and-map feel that ties the legal text to the trade routes it protects.

The suit is thematic. Diamonds give the Legal Committee its look, but they carry no special power in play. Suit matters in only two ways: it breaks ties (spades beat hearts beat diamonds beat clubs), and collecting five cards of one suit scores a "Committee Flush."
